As the team at Decently continues to grow, we are proud to be working with some amazing individuals who continually bring new expertise and skills to help create innovative solutions that will improve lives.

We recently spoke with Prem, our Data Scientist - who has been with the team since the autumn of last year - to find out more about his day-to-day experience of working at Decently.

Hi. Could you please introduce yourself and share a bit about your role at Decently?

Hi, I'm Prem Deep Mareedu, a Data Scientist at Decently. My role focuses heavily on AI and data science and also involves a diverse range of tasks from data analysis and visualisation to software development and cloud infrastructure.

What initially attracted you to join the company?

The idea that Decently works with patient healthcare and being a small start-up where the work I do quickly impacts the lives of people attracted me the most.
Additionally, I was excited by the opportunity to contribute to a team where my efforts would directly influence patient care and rehabilitation, and ultimately towards making lives of people better.
The work itself also aligns strongly with my areas of interest, particularly in data science and AI projects where I can be involved in the entire lifecycle, from conception to production.

What is the team culture like?

Our team culture is marked by amazing co-ordination and collaboration among team members.
We are always helping each other with ideas and support, which fosters a very co-operative and innovative environment. The sense of camaraderie and mutual assistance makes working here truly enjoyable.

Can you describe your day-to-day experience?

My day-to-day experience varies widely. If I’m not working on important tasks like managing our Azure infrastructure or developing frontend or backend solutions, I focus on a range of short and long-term data analysis and data science projects.
This includes building Power BI dashboards to track metrics, researching and implementing new AI and data science techniques, and developing features for our Melo platform to empower clinicians with AI-driven insights, ultimately improving patient care .

It sounds like an ideal work environment for creative & ambitious people. Could you elaborate on the growth and learning opportunities available?

Decently offers incredible growth and learning opportunities, innovative work and hands-on experience are highly encouraged, allowing team members to gain expertise in multiple areas.
My ongoing development is supported through access to courses to upskill ourselves, dedicated learning time across the team and the opportunity to attend relevant conferences and workshops.
Much like any other start-up, we have a high degree of ownership and responsibility, enabling rapid professional development. The fast-paced environment fosters creativity and innovation, and the close-knit team structure ensures that everyone's contributions are recognised and valued. These factors combine to create a dynamic and enriching learning environment.

Are there any specific benefits or perks that you find particularly valuable?

Work-life balance.
This isn't just a buzzword at Decently, it's a core value that allows me to effectively manage both my personal and professional commitments. The company fosters a healthy and productive work environment where I feel supported and empowered to bring my best self to the table.
I deeply appreciate the ownership I have over my projects. Being entrusted with this level of responsibility is incredibly rewarding. It allows me to take initiative, see things through to completion, and feel a real sense of accomplishment.

Do you have any advice for people considering joining the company?

Decently offers a truly unique experience, especially for those who thrive in a dynamic environment.
Be prepared to embrace the variety! There's a diverse range of tasks to tackle, and you'll get the chance to experiment with new approaches. It's a fantastic learning opportunity that will constantly challenge and expand your skillset.
However, it's important to be adaptable as well. Structure can be fluid at times in a start-up setting. The key is to embrace the challenge of juggling priorities and learn from setbacks. This fosters valuable problem-solving skills that will serve you well throughout your career.
